The case for cloud brokerage

Speaking at the New Zealand Cloud Computing Conference in August Hazel Jennings talked of the need for cloud brokerage.

She said one the biggest gaps we have at the moment is the lack of brokerage. This makes it hard for a business person to select a cloud service provider; to make a sensible decision they have to know what they are looking for.

Jennings says finding a cloud partner means setting somebody to go find information whether from a RFI or something similar. Potentially you’ll get back some information and you then have the option of saying “we’ll give this job to you”.

She says: “If you’re paying someone on a time and materials basis, they could end up doing a great job for you. How long they spend doing that good job is another question.

If you have a brokerage, it would allow you to commoditise your cloud process. As it is, none of the products are off the shelf.”
