It may not be at the top of everyone’s reading list, but for journalists, editors and publishers the site was a must-read.

Now sadly, paidContent has closed.

From today the coverage is wrapped into GigaOm.

You could view the closure as a case of job done. After all, many newspaper sites and other online media properties have moved to paid subscriptions. Soon most big publishing companies will charge for content. Although they are having mixed success.

PaidContent was influential with the more advanced people in the media industry. At first it specialised in news. More recently it has been more about analysis and, often, thoughtful commentary.

Now with the brand off the radar Tom Krazit promises:

“More coverage of emerging technology in the media world: social media, startups, new publishing platforms like Medium, ereaders and web video devices.”
