NZ PC sales jump as global numbers fall

IDC reports New Zealand’s PC sales were 22 percent higher in the first quarter of 2014 than the same period a year earlier. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the world which continues to report falling PC sales.

The research company forecasts PC sales will see a six percent year-on-year increase for 2014 thanks to an expanding economy.

IDC singled out Chromebooks for a special mention. The company says increased demand from educational establishments boosted overall shipments.

2014 Q1 NZ PC Market Share

HP remains the best-selling brand with sales up 30 percent on the same period a year earlier and a higher market share. Acer’s sales increased at a faster rate: 150 percent when compared with the same period a year before. Apple’s market share slipped with sales growing just five percent, that’s slower than the overall market. The un-named brands saw their market share fall from almost 27 percent of the market to just under 20 percent.
