Telecom NZ extends WiFi footprint with Auckland Transport deal
Auckland Transport imposes stingy restrictions on its customers using the WiFi network installed at railway stations and, soon, bus terminals and ferry wharves.
However, there’s good news for Telecom NZ mobile customers. The company tells me the Auckland Transport network is effectively a Telecom NZ nationwide mobile hot-spot network extension.
Telecom NZ mobile customers will be able to use the Auckland Transport hot-spots in the same way they can use the rest of the company’s WiFi network. Which means they can use up to 1GB of data a day on the network.
Adding Auckland Transport locations to the Telecom NZ WiFi network means there will be considerably more coverage in New Zealand’s biggest city. Telecom NZ says it now has almost 1000 hot-spots nationwide.
Cutting a deal with Auckland Transport gives Telecom NZ an opportunity to let customers of rival cellular networks get a taste of its WiFi network.
